When life gets in the way of blogging
August 16, 2011 by Shannon
Life happens. And sometimes, it shoves aside all your hopes and good intentions.
That’s what happened to me this summer.
Just as the winter was turning over into spring, I started saying yes to things – a lot of things that have very little to do with this blog. Return to my former job again for three months or so? Yes. Keep working as a website editor while anchoring the news part-time? Yes. Write a handful of articles for local publications? Yes. Sign my son up for several dance, art, music and theater camps? Yes. And just like that, before I knew it, I hadn’t blogged in weeks.
Life happens.
And sometimes, when you let life get in the way of blogging, you lose your voice. Or it gets a little hoarse, at the very least. Because I’m not sure what’s blog-worthy anymore. It seems like so much of what I’ve been doing is, well, not too interesting to anyone other than me.
Hmm.
So anyway, here I am. Humbly trying to take the reins of my blog again. Letting it sit – ignored – just doesn’t feel right to me. And yet, I am grateful for what I’ve learned this summer, which is: letting life get in the way is sometimes the right thing to do. Because a life well-lived is really the entire point, isn’t it?
