Typo Patrol: Then vs. Than
October 23, 2009 by Shannon
If the word than were to challenge the word then in a duel, who do you think would win? Yeah. Ponder that one for a while.
(These are the ridiculous things that go through my mind when I find typos, by the way. In case you were wondering.)
Personally, I think than would win, because it’s the underdog, and it is pissed. It is constantly being passed over — inappropriately — for the word then. At left, yet another example of how than gets the short end of the stick.
“Brewed coffee is more then 98% water.”
If than keeps getting overlooked like this, well, let’s just say you wouldn’t want to come across it in a dark alley. And just in case you do, if it asks you whether you like tea more than coffee…then run. It’s a very bad sign.
