WTH? There’s something in the walls…

Tick. Ticky tick tick. Scrrrritch. Click tick.
As I sit in my living room, that’s the noise I hear coming from the walls and ceiling. It happens at night, it happens in mid-morning…and it is driving me batty. What the hell is it?
Well, the exterminator man had some good news and some bad news for that question. It is not ants. It is not mice. It is not squirrels. In fact, he told us that he can confidently say it is not a mammal of any kind. However, he cannot tell us what it is, nor can he make the ticky ticky stop.
Ticky scrrrrritch. Tick. Click click.
In other WTH news, we noticed that the small pond in our courtyard was draining last summer. We figured there must have been a leak in the pond liner. So we turned off the pumps and let it sit through the winter until we could hire someone to haul out all the rocks and put in a new liner. A guy did that just last week and…..there is no leak. No reason whatsoever for the mysterious disappearing water. Several hundred dollars later, we had a new liner put over the old nondefective one, and the pond now retains water again. Sigh.
I’m thinking our only other choice for solving these strange goings-on is to hire an exorcist. Because little creepy demons seem to be the only logical explanation for the weird crap that’s going on around here.
Oh and did I tell you our basement flooded? That’s another story for another time, I think. Stay tuned.

Oh, my goodness! I’m afraid it’s just par for the course when you own a house. Our “scritchy” sound turned out to be squirrels once and a raccoon another time. We’ve also had ants, mice, and crickets in our house, a flooded basement, random leaks and ceiling stains, strange odors, and oh — one time a *dead bird* behind the washing machine in the basement. No one was ever able to explain it.
And hey — did you ever consider maybe something was drinking the pond water? Maybe the same creature that’s living in your walls.
Our last townhome had a gremlin in the walls. The exterminator thought we were nuts too, but guess what…… the gremlin died in the walls. Yeah, smells really bad. If the noise stops keep your nose tuned for strange smells.
