Sneak a “peak” at this

July 27, 2009 by Shannon

Food Network's Sneak PeakWe’re big fans of the Food Network at my house, and I’m rooting for Melissa d’Arabian to become the Next Food Network Star — she’s a stay-at-home mom of four who’s a whiz in the kitchen. Go Melissa!

But while watching her advance to the final two on the show last night, I saw something that had me jumping off the couch in horror. No, it was not a wandering tick. It was not an enormous spider. It was my all-time, number one BIGGEST typo pet peeve in the world. No, forget world….in the universe. I hate this typo like some people hate going the dentist. There it was, just above the Food Network bug.

“SNEAK PEAK Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin”

Are you kidding me? C’mon Food Network! I love you guys! Then you go and hit me with the sneak peak?!?! It’s sneak peek, got it? Sneak peek!!!

I’m telling you, that typo had me more unnerved than seeing Jeff Corwin eat grubs, ants and brains. And coming from a vegetarian, that’s saying something.

Wow! That is a big mistake! I wonder how that went on-air? I love when you expose these sorts of mistakes, even though every time I comment after I panic that I’ve spelled something wrong!

Maybe I am a sick puppy, but I find it a little bit reassuring that even the “pros” are making mistakes here and there. That and you should probably be some highly paid editor, Shan because you have a superhuman ability to find those missteps. I am also amazed that you were able to catch that screen shot via photo without the help of DVR. How did you do that? I will be brainstorming superhero names for you!

Aww, don’t be freaked out Loukia! I conveniently overlook the typos made by my friends. Most of the time. ;-)

Courtney, regarding your question about how I photographed the mistake…it was easy! They left it up there for about 5 minutes. I just stood there snapping pictures until I got one that was easy to read. (Michael was like, ‘Are you going to post all 400 of those pictures?’) Not only that, but it came up AGAIN towards the end of the show! And AGAIN during Extreme Cuisine with Jeff Corwin! I almost could not concentrate on the programming at all, it made me so crazy.

Does leaving a word out of a sentence bother you?

Interesting scientific analysis. You must keep the camera at the ready at all times in order to capture these Super Moments!

That is pretty funny that it aired that many times with the mistake. I would have thought they would have someone monitoring the live feed/it would have been caught in progress somewhere. Interesting!

I know! A typo like that just shouldn’t happen. And it especially should not be aired repeatedly!

I wouldn’t say omitted words bother me. I think that kind of a mistake can be funny, depending on the sentence. It just kinda depends. As with all typos, I think some are funny, some are common, and some are downright irritating. Like sneak “peak”. And “congradulations” instead of congratulations. And “anus” instead of heinous. Oh boy, I could go on all day…

WOW! That’s pretty bad! I have to say, after sitting next to you all of those years at work, that’s now one of my pet peeves for misspellings at work. I’ve also caught that one from coworkers myself.

That’s a pretty bad one, don’t they pay people a lot of money to make sure that doesn’t happen?
