Sick and tired

November 18, 2009 by Shannon

Sick kiddoI’ve been suffering from a grand delusion up until this week. The delusion that somehow our family was going to stay relatively healthy this cold and flu season.

Boy, was I wrong.

It started with Michael’s sore throat. He had a mild ache, which never produced any sort of coughing. Then he passed the bug to me. I too, had a mildly achy throat — for about a week. Then came the coughing…the runny nose…the total exhaustion.

While slogging around the house in misery, I’ve been doing everything I can to keep Kellan from getting the bug. Lots of hand washing, lots of hand sanitizer and lots of Vitamin C-rich foods. Plus, we’re both jacked up on vitamin supplements.

Sure enough, he caught the bug anyway. He’s got the runny nose, the watery eyes….the whole bit. But the worst part? The coughing. This kid is prone to respiratory problems, and I’m crossing my fingers that things don’t get so bad this time that we have to give him another steroid treatment.

I didn’t really want to blog about how sick and tired we are, because I know plenty of people have the full-blown flu right now. But honestly — this is what’s going on in our life right now. There’s not a lot of fun, creative stuff happening. Just lots of sniffling, sneezing, coughing and tissues. Lots and lots of tissues.

Ehhh, I hear ya. My daughter and I got H1N1…or the Hiney flu as we like to call it back in October… and now the husband has the exhaustion thing, and the baby girl is sniffling again.

    It. Never. Seems. To. END!

I hope your family fairs better than ours. Good luck my dear!

We’ve been keeping healthy this year, nothing but a little allergy/sinus stuff. I highly reccommend castor oil packs and massaging it around the lymph nodes of the throat. Since we started doing it with Vic he hasn’t even had the sniffles and he was spiking fevers with ear infections at least once a month before we started. Let me know if you want more info.
