Nothing whatsoever to say

February 18, 2011 by Shannon

So….yeah. Here’s another little problem with my goal of blogging more.

When I get a glorious little window of free time, I have nothing to say.

Kellan is at preschool, the baby is (finally!) asleep, and I have no idea what I could possibly write about. No idea whatsoever. Hmm…

I feel awful! Hey! I could write about that! I could write about how I stayed up until midnight, because after I got done working I felt I needed to do a little research on a trip we’re planning for early June. I could write about how I got up to nurse the baby at 2 am. And how she got up again at 6:30 am and didn’t feel like going back to sleep. And how I’m now feeling like a slightly caffeinated, brain-dead zombie.

Well, that won’t work. That’s pretty much the story right there.

Oh dear lord, I should not blog with my feet up and my laptop on my lap. Because I can see the tips of my toes, which only reminds me that my feet look horrendous. They are in dire need of some pedicure attention. They remind me of velcro, because they’re so dry and scratchy, they grab the bedcovers at night and make a little “rrrripp” sound when I pull them away.

Gah!! What I am saying? That is certainly not an interesting topic. You didn’t come here to read that, did you? You probably have a nightmare-ish mental image of my feet in your head now. Sorry about that.

Let’s see here…the recycling truck is roaring down the street as we speak. Bet my glorious little window of writing time is about to close, since a certain little girl will probably wake up….thanks, ginormous and LOUD recycling truck.

Um, okay. What else is there to mention? Good golly, I’m hungry. You know how when you’re sleep deprived, you just feel starving all the time, because your body is desperately trying to find energy somewhere? That’s how I feel right now. Zombie-like and starving.

What was I saying? Oh yeah. I was still thinking. Uhhhh….

Oh, here’s some big news: I am apparently a Jedi-in-training. My husband and brother-in-law recently decided that now is the time to begin Kellan’s Star Wars education, so they showed him a couple of the movies. (They started with the newer ones, which I take issue with, but since I don’t have a 20+ year-old collection of well-loved Star Wars action figures, I’m deferring to the boys on this one.) So Kellan has been practicing his Jedi moves nonstop. As in, every waking moment of every day. And now that Winnie-the-Pooh has been trained up in the ways of the Force, it’s apparently my turn to get schooled. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hmm, what else. My hands are really dry. Not velcro-like, but close. I really need some lotion.

Wow, this blog post is really going nowhere fast. It’s becoming clear to me that I should have taken a nap instead of blogging during this glorious little free time window. Whoops.

Well, time’s up anyway. I hear Ella is done with her nap. Thanks again, ginormous recycling truck.

LOL! Someday you’ll be glad you documented all this stuff. Then when you’re tempted to tell some bedraggled new mom these are the best years of her life so she should enjoy every! single! glorious! minute! you can remind yourself what it was really like. And not risk having her go all Jedi on you. ;)

I know you feel like you have nothing to say…but thanks for being so real! If it makes you feel better, my hands and feet are really, really dry right now.:) great post.
