No, summer! Don’t go!
September 30, 2009 by Shannon
I am savoring this picture. I think it may be the best-looking harvest left in the season. Isn’t it pretty? All that lovely color…
This year was my first venture into gardening, and we did it the right way, I think. We partnered up with our friends and next-door neighbors. We shared the labor & costs, they shared their land. And we all got some really great produce to add to our menu. Except for tomatoes. I’m not sure what was up with them — the plants never really produced the bountiful harvest we all hoped for.
So anyway. I thought I’d share this photo to help me work through some of my sadness. I can’t believe summer is over. Where did it go? I left my job just as the summer got into full swing, and it really doesn’t feel like I’ve been out of the workforce that long. So how, I ask you, can it be fall already???
Sigh. I’m slowly coming around to the thought of sweaters. And pumpkins. Crisp fall air. The crunch of fallen leaves underfoot. Warm, bread fresh out of the oven. Hot soup to dip it in.
Hmm. Maybe I’m more okay with this than I thought.
All right then fall…bring it.

Hrmmm… 43 degrees this morning? Yah, bring back summer. BLECH.
On another fine note, I FOUND a pair of those “chopstlcks” with the misspelled wrapper in an old purse I dug out the other night. BONUS!!!!!
I was having the same feelings about summer leaving this week as well. But today, I finally decided I was ready for fall. I cite all the same reasons to love fall as you do, but you forgot to mention - this is perfect knitting season!!!
I had me some hot tea and Jossy and I shared a steaming bowl of brothy soup with a hunk of bread today, mmmmm! Now if I can just get her to leave her hat and socks on, we’ll be lovin’ the fall too!
