My belly needs its own zip code

May 19, 2010 by Shannon

Big bellyYou guys. Seriously. The stomach I’m sporting around is ridiculous. Perfect strangers comment on how I look like I’m going to give birth any day. You should see their jaws nearly fall off their faces when I tell them I still have two months to go.

For a little while, I started to think that maybe it’s just me. Maybe I just feel 40 weeks pregnant when I’m only 30 because I am home all day with a preschooler.

And then I went to yoga class last week.

When I got there, my instructor and one other student were already perched in some hip-opening stretches. When I walked the length of the room to the yoga supply closet, the other student said something like, “Oh, you’re really showing.” The instructor was quick to jump in with that familiar old refrain, “Everybody carries differently.” I didn’t think much of it.

Then we all stood up.

This other student is due four days before me, but she is about half the size. I’m not kidding. Her belly looks the way mine did two months ago.

What’s going on? Am I cooking up some twins? You’d think two ultrasounds would have picked up on that by now. I’m starting to think that my little freak out about having to wear maternity pants three months into this pregnancy was quite justified. I was alarmed then about how big I’d become, and looky looky. My belly needs its own zip code and I’m not due until July. The end of July.

Guess I better mentally prepare myself to deliver a gigantic baby girl. I certainly have plenty of time to do so.

I so could have written this post. Not due til end of July, ginormous belly, thinking I could be having twins even though more than a dozen ultrasounds have confirmed there’s only one in there, being around preggos who are ready to deliver and are half my size, etc etc. Ugh! I’m right there with ya! BUT - YOU look great! I wish I looked that good.

The second pregnancy is different! And the third, fourth, etc. So I hear. I wouldn’t be surprised if you have her early though. Be prepared!

I think you look beautiful! I am due the first of July with number two and have the same problem with the gigantic belly!

See…I am not convinced this is a second pregnancy phenomenon! A friend who’s also due with her second, but in early July, is not nearly my size. Either this baby is going to be huge or I’m delivering early. And at this point, I’ll take the giant baby over the early delivery. Hands down.

Yes, you are gorgeous! And look at your nice, toned, thin arms! I gained weight EVERYWHERE with both my babies! Don’t worry and never compare your size to other pregnant mamas! Everyone carries differently, it means nothing. :)

You look beautiful Shan. The size of the belly doesn’t necessarily mean the baby will be large. My belly was very large with Gwyn and got that way early on, but it was A LOT of fluid that was making me so large and uncomfortable. Maybe that’s what is going on with you. And yes, I’m sure they would have picked up another heart beat if it was there :). Love you Sweetie, hope you are feeling well. I’m getting excited to meet the little girl!

I agree with Shelly…and everyone else b/c you look fabulous! And as long as you two are both healthy then all will be well! She will be beautiful girl just like her mommy!
    I miss you!
    Lots of hugs,
    Meg
