Typo Patrol: A mistake at Fox News Channel
September 4, 2009 by Shannon

Today, the Typo Patrol focuses on my former employer’s parent network: Fox News Channel.
(Editor’s Note: By the way, I can’t tell you how many phone calls I fielded over the years, from people asking me to just “pass along” a news tip or nasty complaint to Shepard Smith and the gang. Sorry folks, it just doesn’t work like that. Affiliates don’t get some sort of hotline to the network. Believe me — if by some miracle I could get the ear of Shepard Smith, I would definitely NOT use the time to pass along your complaints. I’d pass along my own.)
This typo — more of a misspelling, really — came during the height of the Ted Kennedy funeral coverage. Take a look. Cemetary instead of cemetery. Can’t blame them, really. It sure sounds like an A belongs in there. But only E’s are allowed in the cemetery. Only E’s, my friends.
In the interest of full disclosure, I must admit that I also fell victim to this particular typo on more than one occasion. Hard to believe, I know. I spelled it incorrectly in a script during the early days of my career and was politely corrected by the main anchor at our station. Boy, did I feel dumb. But I made a resolution to spell it correctly from there on out. Of course, I also feel compelled to point out any other “cemetary” misspellings I see.
And until I can track down Shep’s cell number or Rupert Murdoch’s direct line, this post will just have to do.

Ha ha ha!! I thought I was the only one who was nitpicky… I recently saw a tv commercial where they used “your” instead of the correct “you’re.” I guess it’s just the journalist within us that constantly notices these things…
Keep up the great work!!
Too funny!
