It’s spring (raffle) time!
April 26, 2010 by Shannon
Thank you Spring, for deciding to grace my lovely city with your presence. You sure have taken your sweet time getting here. I have a feeling you’re going to take off again before you decide to stick around for good, and if you are considering doing so, just know that I might slip into some sort of rain/cold-induced depression. I’m just sayin’. Maybe you should hang out for a while.
I’d also like to thank you, dear readers, for sticking by me. I know I haven’t been the most constant of bloggers lately – something which drives me crazy – but it’s nice to know that you still check in here and don’t forget about me. And because the house/moving stuff has nearly TAKEN OVER MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE (and is, sadly, the only real conversation topic I can speak about these days) I am thankful for a small little spring-related event that is distracting me somewhat from packing tape and paint color decisions.
Here’s the deal – the Idaho Lottery is launching their first ever Spring Raffle. Five bucks for a chance to win $500,000. Not bad, eh? And as part of the launch, they’re revealing their new ad campaign, which yours truly had a little teeny tiny part in. I am the voice for the Spring Raffle ads! Yay me. But what’s even cooler is the ad itself, done completely in stop-motion animation by my friend, Jason Sievers. Stop-motion is Jason’s thing, and you guys – he is amazing. Can you imagine taking over a thousand pictures of tiny little objects and then using about 700 or so of those images to create a 30 second video? No? Neither can I. Yet this is the kind of stuff he does all the time for music videos, and now, a local TV spot. Check it out:
Sweet, isn’t it? May I point out that even the graphic at the end is stop-motion. No fancy schmancy video editor was at work there. Nope, just the skilled hands of Mr. Sievers. And if you look really closely, you’ll see that he hand cut the logo himself with an Exacto knife. Wowee.
I should also note that the music is by local band, Spondee. I love that this entire spot is generated entirely in Idaho, with all Idaho talent. Yay for the Idaho Lottery!
So there it is – the little distraction that’s taking my mind off the long list of things I still have to get done to get our house in sellable condition. Thanks for letting me brag a bit. Now back to my to-do list…

That is really impressive! I would have assumed that was all done digitally if I hadn’t read this. Thanks for telling us about it. (Oh, and the voice work is great too.
Wow!!! What a cool ad….wonderful distraction!
