Instant robot costume

Last week I found myself in need of something to keep Kellan occupied. Something other than a coloring book and the TV. Thank goodness for washable markers and paper bags.
I pulled out a bag, a permanent marker, some neon sticky notes and washable markers. I cut one big hole in the bottom of the bag and two smaller ones on the sides. After that, I drew on a series of circles and squares to look like buttons and gears. Then I sat Kellan down with the sticky notes and washable markers and let him go to town. He scribbled and colored that thing for 15 minutes or so, long enough to let me finish whatever it was I was trying to accomplish — cleaning up the messy kitchen, I think. The best part — his scribbled-on creation then became a costume he could goof around in! I just slipped a couple of empty soap boxes on his arms and my little robot man set to marching around the kitchen. Cheap, easy and instant entertainment.
Now that I think about it, it would have been fun to have him craft his own robot antennae out of aluminum foil. Hmm. Well, next time.
What do you do to keep your kids happy and occupied in a pinch?
