Halloween ‘09: The Year of the….acrobat???
October 30, 2009 by Shannon
Kellan was a monkey for his very first Halloween. In 2008, he was a chicken. Both costumes were selected by yours truly. This year, Kellan has been very clear about what HE wants to be: an acrobat.
You’re getting visions of tight spandex and high wires, right? Then what would you say if I told you the U2 video below is the reason for Kellan’s costume idea?
Confused? Yeah, so was I. But he told me multiple times, “I want to be an acrobat. Like U2.”
So I asked Kellan to look at a magazine of costume options and point out what he wanted to be. (Not that there was an acrobat costume in there, of course. But I really needed some kind of direction.) He pointed at this:

Ah ha! Clearly his 2.5-year old mind didn’t differentiate between “acrobat” and “bat.” I was thrilled to figure out the mystery, but I knew I couldn’t put him in that ridiculous costume. I mean, any kid that can take such inspiration from one of U2’s most underrated songs needs to be clothed in more…well…rock n’ roll Halloween attire. Am I right?
So how’s this for a rockin’ acrobat costume:

Umm…yeah. It’s a work in progress. That partially disassembled umbrella is going to be a pair of sweet acrobat wings! And I’m going to attach it to a black shirt, and he’s going to wear black pants, and I’m going to put the letters A-C-R-O on his shirt and…..
Wait. When is Halloween again? Uh oh. I’m in trouble here, aren’t I?
