Christmas Countdown: 11 weeks to go

October 12, 2009 by Shannon

Christmas glowWell, this is a first. I can’t stop thinking about Christmas, and it’s barely October. I haven’t even laid hands on a pumpkin yet, and I am already scheming about how the holidays are going to play out this year.

I suppose it’s not totally crazy that I’m mulling things over. After all, I bought — I mean, Santa made — Kellan’s Christmas present by mid-October last year. And by the looks of things on other blogs, other people are thinking about the holidays too. But the thing that’s different about this year, for me at least, is that I have big plans. BIG plans as far as gifts go.

I’m not talking about anything extravagant. No, quite the opposite. I’m planning on a low budget, handcrafted Christmas. Of course, I can’t get into specifics. But let’s just say there’s a lot of craftiness — and maybe even a little sewing — involved here. (Ask my mom how ridiculous I am at sewing. Go ahead, ask her how many times I’ve borrowed her sewing machine, battled with it, and returned it to her in complete and utter disarray. I do NOT get along with that machine. I’ve also been known to hand sew things to bedspreads.)

So I better get cracking, because I’ve got a lot of crafting to do here. Just don’t laugh at me if I give you something crafty, okay? I may have sewn it to many a bedspread before deeming it giftable, all right?

This does not mean I’m not thinking about Halloween. Check out these jack o’ lantern jars! They’re so simple and fun to make.

I’m on the same page as you. Low budget, hand crafted is my Christmas agenda too. It’s easy for the women on my gift list, the men are a bit harder, and my 14 year old son will be impossible. I hope my creativity is up for the challenge.

When my son, neices and nephews were little I used to put together themed boxes for them. Usually a cheap box that I decorated, then filled with inexpensive things they could use to be crafty or imaginative.

i have thought the same thing for this christmas, too. why go out into the masses only to get stressed about finding the perfect gift (that is way too much money or takes up way too much space)? I’m with you; stay in. make it myself! i’m assuming you will be knitting some fine gifts? and i’d like to see you in action with a sewing machine. i’ll be looking for an installment of that on momcast!

Are you kidding me? I am sooooe excited for Christmas! I can’t wait for this month to be over ’cause once it’s officially November 1st, we can talk about Christmas all we want to! :) I have already written a few posts about Christmas already! You’re so crafty… you’re totally going to make me feel bad ’cause I can’t make anything myself!

I can’t believe XMAS is almost here again. The year is FLYING by. That’s the part I don’t like. But I love December, because my son’s bday is in December and the kids ADORE Xmas and they get spoiled rotten so its always super fun.

Good for you for being crafty. Me, not so much.

I love a good handcrafted Christmas! I’ve been mentally making my gift list but it’ll do me no good unless I get crafting! I can’t wait to hear about your crafy goodness!
