Checking off my list (and treating myself at the same time!)

December 7, 2009 by Shannon

Christmas shopping!Phew. I just got some of my Christmas shopping done — not all of it, but some. And even though I never really left the comfort of my laptop, I am totally drained. It was intense. I always overanalyze purchases, but I think I’m even worse when I’m shopping for someone else.

This particular shopping experience was a doozy. I found a good deal on one website and made a purchase, which gave me a $15 gift code for another. So I headed over there to see if I could find a gift for someone, and found the perfect item. So I started the ordering process, which involved the gift code and an additional 10% off (thanks to Ebates — more on that below). Then, just before finalizing the order, I freaked out about the shipping. I thought maybe I chose the wrong option. So I tried to go back and fix it but I accidentally clicked the “Process Order” button. Anyway, long story short…I didn’t mean to place the order, but did, and the shipping is fine and I’m getting a great deal thanks to all the discounts. Woo!

But this time, I can’t admit to shopping totally for others. Um, yeah…I slipped a little something into the order, just for me. It’s something I don’t really need, but it is beautiful, sparkly and an utter bargain! In fact, I don’t even want to say what it is or how much I paid for it until I get the package on my doorstep. It was such a deal, I’m half afraid the company will contact me and say there’s been some sort of mistake!

But I’m trying something new this year — Ebates. You’ve heard of this site, right? Well, I’ve decided now is the time to join. I like doing as much Christmas shopping as possible online so I don’t have to lug Kellan all over town, and Ebates partners with all the websites I like to shop at. I figure if I’m going to shop online anyway, I might as well do it in a way that gets me a little cash back. (Oh, and if you want to join, would you mind doing it through any of the Ebates links in this post? The referrals will get me a lil’ extra cash back, and of course extra cash is always a nice thing, right?)

So. Now I wait. In a week’s time I should have a lovely gift for someone on my list, plus a nice little something for myself. Ahh…I love Christmas.

How is your Christmas shopping going? Are you an online shopper, craft show devotee, or do you head to the mall?

I haven’t started any of my holiday shopping. I also had to start over my first knitted project so I’m not doing so well. I like to shop locally for gift, of shop at holiday craft shows. But I’ve missed several craft shows and am thinking the web is the way to go this year since Christmas is super close!

We mainly just shopped for the kids this year due to our tight budget, so it was pretty easy, now we have to start the wrapping process and with Christmas not too far away we need to start soon!
