Last week I found myself in need of something to keep Kellan occupied. Something other than a coloring book and the TV. Thank goodness for washable markers and paper bags.

I planned for our recent Oregon Coast trip in much the same way a person might plan for an extended stay in a remote country. I tried to think of everything. Part of the road trip plan had to include a breakfast in the car that would be yummy, relatively mess-free, and toddler friendly. The result: Breakfast on a Stick.

It’s all set! In a few weeks, we’ll be heading to the Oregon Coast for a nice family getaway. I’m already starting to think about what to pack, but more importantly, I’m thinking about how to survive our first big road trip.
We’ve never driven more than 3 hours with Kellan before. The trip we’re taking will average about 10 hours. Yikes.

I am certain that no one will nominate me for Mom of the Year with this blog entry.
But let’s be honest here. I have a lot of wine corks at my house. And since I always have big plans to do something crafty with them but never do, I find other ways to use them. A couple of my solutions have proven to be good toddlerproofing techniques. Yeah, I feel kinda weird using wine corks to toddlerproof my house. But who cares, as long as it works.

Have an old long-sleeved T-shirt lying around? In two minutes’ time you can turn it into a custom fit child’s art smock, and save yourself plenty of laundry headaches.
Any T-shirt would probably work for this project, but I like using a long sleeved one because the arms can be used as ties to keep the smock well-fitted to the kid.

Summer is here. Which means popsicles, swimming, running through the sprinkler, and that all too familiar phrase to moms everywhere: “I’m bored!”
Here’s what I do when we need to get out and I don’t want to spend a lot of money to keep Kellan entertained.

What a great way to spend a rainy spring afternoon. Construct a colorful set of bowling pins!
I’ve been hoarding empty toilet paper rolls for a while now, with the feeling I’d be inspired to come up with some crafty purpose for them. And I did! Ta da!

Just in case you haven’t noticed yet, I’m a big fan of making pancakes and waffles on the weekends. But I’m also notorious for forgetting at least one thing on the grocery list every time I go. Which means I’ll often find myself completely out of eggs while whipping up batter in my PJ’s on a Saturday morning.
