My house is alive with the sound of music

Kellan can now add another title to his resume: musical lover. Yes, as in musicals. The kind where actors randomly break out into song and dance while having an otherwise normal conversation.

Preschool, Day One: Nerves, tears and smiles

There was nervousness, clingyness and even some tears. But at the end of three hours, there were smiles! Oh, and I should be honest and tell you Kellan wasn’t the only one with nerves, clinging and tears. Yeah, I lost it a little.

The preschool blues

January 5, 2010 by Shannon  |  2 Comments

My baby is going to preschool this morning. A full-fledged, two-day-a-week, preschool complete with all the activities that preschoolers do — circle time, independent play, art time…even swimming lessons. Yes, swimming lessons! My little boy is going to learn to swim!

I’m so nervous.

Where did that hair come from?

One of the first things people notice about my family is that Kellan looks noticeably different from his parents in one key area — his hair. He is very blonde.

Big requests for Santa Claus

This Christmas is going to be so fun. Kellan really gets the concept of Santa this year, and this is the first year that he’s asking for specific gifts from the big man. He is so thrilled, which makes me feel giddy too!

Suckers suck

I don’t have anything against suckers, per se. They are certainly tasty. I have fond childhood memories of going through the bank drive-thru with my mom, because the tellers gave us Dum-Dums.

Now that I’m the mom? I think suckers suck.

What our Christmas cards WON'T look like

It’s that time again — time for the yearly family photo in front of the Christmas tree.

Sheesh, what a chore.

Speaking “toddlerese”

November 30, 2009 by Shannon  |  4 Comments

Speaking

Is there anything funnier than the language skills of a toddler? The mixed up phrases, the swapped out consonants, the mispronounced words…hearing this stuff is much-needed comic relief after a long day of meals, snacks, missed naps and a messy house.

Random thoughts, begone!

November 9, 2009 by Shannon  |  6 Comments

Ever have those nights where the wheels in your head just WON’T STOP SPINNING??? Honestly, why is it the brain mulls over some of the most inane subjects while it is supposed to be shutting down for the night? This is just some of the stupid junk my brain has tortured me with lately…
