We had a really great parent/teacher conference this week with Kellan’s two preschool teachers. It’s nice to hear that some of the things that may drive you crazy as a parent are actually great developmental milestones. So in the spirit of encouraging Kellan’s developmental advances, I am trying to exercise a little more patience with his millions upon millions of questions.

Ah ha. Now I get what people mean when they say “every pregnancy is different.” I am only 26 weeks pregnant, and this baby feels like she is going to fall right out. In fact, sometimes I think she might be considering poking an arm out to check the weather. (Don’t bother, sweetie. There’s rain in the forecast. AGAIN.)

Back in June, I told you how I got no say in how we were going to refer to private parts in our household. I would have preferred that Kellan start calling it a “pee pee” or something innocuous like that. And now….now the day has come that he is starting to refer to his penis in public.

What do you get after you work part-time for six weeks, plan for and execute a three year old’s birthday party and lose one hour of sleep due to Daylight Saving Time? For me, at least, you get pretty tired.

The one downside of having a talkative kid is that nearly every meal becomes Chatty Hour. And I kid you not — an hour at the table is not unusual for him. So you see why my blood pressure rises when I only have 30 minutes to get breakfast in him before preschool. Only 30 minutes. I’m sweating just thinking about it.

Last week when I picked Kellan up from preschool, his teacher handed me a still wet painting (yes, wet paint — like I want wet paint in my car) that Kellan made for me. At the top, the teacher had written Kellan’s title for the piece, and a quote…

Now I’m starting to remember how I felt when I was working. Mind you, I’m only working 20 hours a week right now. So I really can’t complain because there are PLENTY of working moms who balance it all and still manage to stay sane and wear matching socks on a daily basis.

So…we told Kellan.

I hate grocery shopping. I really, really hate it. I try not to use the word hate, but when it comes to a certain football team I loathe and the weekly task of grocery shopping, I just can’t help it.
