The one downside of having a talkative kid is that nearly every meal becomes Chatty Hour. And I kid you not — an hour at the table is not unusual for him. So you see why my blood pressure rises when I only have 30 minutes to get breakfast in him before preschool. Only 30 minutes. I’m sweating just thinking about it.

Last week when I picked Kellan up from preschool, his teacher handed me a still wet painting (yes, wet paint — like I want wet paint in my car) that Kellan made for me. At the top, the teacher had written Kellan’s title for the piece, and a quote…

Now I’m starting to remember how I felt when I was working. Mind you, I’m only working 20 hours a week right now. So I really can’t complain because there are PLENTY of working moms who balance it all and still manage to stay sane and wear matching socks on a daily basis.

So…we told Kellan.

There was nervousness, clingyness and even some tears. But at the end of three hours, there were smiles! Oh, and I should be honest and tell you Kellan wasn’t the only one with nerves, clinging and tears. Yeah, I lost it a little.

My baby is going to preschool this morning. A full-fledged, two-day-a-week, preschool complete with all the activities that preschoolers do — circle time, independent play, art time…even swimming lessons. Yes, swimming lessons! My little boy is going to learn to swim!
I’m so nervous.

One of the first things people notice about my family is that Kellan looks noticeably different from his parents in one key area — his hair. He is very blonde.
