Our house is still not fully unpacked. We still have no shower enclosure, towel bars or toilet roll holder in our master bath. I could go into labor at any time, really. And yet, we decided to leave town for the Fourth of July weekend.
Boy, was that a smart decision.

Lately strangers have gone out of their way to help me. Maybe it’s because I look like I’m going to give birth at any second, and they want to help me get where I’m going so they don’t have to witness it. After all, my belly does need its own zip code. Whatever. I’m grateful for the help…

You guys. Seriously. The stomach I’m sporting around is ridiculous. Perfect strangers comment on how I look like I’m going to give birth any day. You should see their jaws nearly fall off their faces when I tell them I still have two months to go.

I used to be a nightowl, back in the days when I didn’t get home from the newsroom until 10:30 pm. Now? Not so much. My child has been waking up at 6:3o am for days on end. Days, I tell you. Several days. Which tells me this is not just a fleeting thing – this early wake up call is becoming the norm.

We had a really great parent/teacher conference this week with Kellan’s two preschool teachers. It’s nice to hear that some of the things that may drive you crazy as a parent are actually great developmental milestones. So in the spirit of encouraging Kellan’s developmental advances, I am trying to exercise a little more patience with his millions upon millions of questions.

Ah ha. Now I get what people mean when they say “every pregnancy is different.” I am only 26 weeks pregnant, and this baby feels like she is going to fall right out. In fact, sometimes I think she might be considering poking an arm out to check the weather. (Don’t bother, sweetie. There’s rain in the forecast. AGAIN.)

Back in June, I told you how I got no say in how we were going to refer to private parts in our household. I would have preferred that Kellan start calling it a “pee pee” or something innocuous like that. And now….now the day has come that he is starting to refer to his penis in public.

What do you get after you work part-time for six weeks, plan for and execute a three year old’s birthday party and lose one hour of sleep due to Daylight Saving Time? For me, at least, you get pretty tired.
