And now the work begins
February 2, 2010 by Shannon
Today is the day! Well, to be specific, TONIGHT is the day I go back to work for a while. And I have a lot on my mind.
- I wonder if the slow cooker meal I have planned for tonight will be good at all. I just found the recipe two days ago in a magazine. So this is just a big experiment, really. And just ask Michael — he LOOOOOVES being the subject of a slow cooker experiment. (Yeah, right.)
- I wonder if I should try to cram my belly into some non-maternity work clothes, or if I should just surrender to the inevitability of maternity work wear, as I have maternity casual wear. (Luckily, I have plenty of maternity suits from the last go round.)
- I wonder if the new teleprompters will make me feel out of sorts, or if its simply been so long since I’ve read from a prompter that it will make no difference whatsoever. I hope it’s the former.
- I wonder if I feel weird not sitting at my old desk in the newsroom.
- And the biggie — I wonder how long it will take me to get to work at the height of rush hour traffic.
That last one is the real mystery. I’m not a fan of the commute I have to make to the TV station, and it is about 1,000 times worse at rush hour. Oh well. At least I know I’ll get to spend the drive listening to whatever music I want to, without having to take (persistent) requests from the little guy in back. In fact, I could even turn off the music altogether and sit in total silence! Imagine that! Silence for an hour!
On second thought, this commute is going to be a piece of cake.

I’m sure it’ll just be like riding a bike…it’ll all come back to you! You’ll do great!!! Just, um, try to avoid the gigglefests when talking about terrorists, ok? There, am done with the advice from your former producer! And I really hope I didn’t just jinx you!!!
Can’t wait to hear all about it!
Hey, I caught the last half of the show on line. You did great and looked great. I hope you enjoy you hour ride home in complete silence.
I went to the FOX web site and saw your newscast. You were *awesome* and gorgeous! Rattled everything off without a glitch as though you never stopped doing the news. I bet Mike and Kellan got a kick out of seeing you on TV.
How did it go???
Yes, what did Kellan say about seeing you on TV? That must be awesome for him!! I am so in awe about you going back to work while pregnant and with your home responsibilities too. You go girl!!! I am going to pull up that newscast on Fox now too…
I absolutely agree with Shelly! It’s so daring of you to go back to work - superb!
