All I want for Christmas? A magic wand
December 20, 2010 by Shannon

Kellan has quite a Christmas list this year. One of the many items he’s requesting? A magic wand. A REAL magic wand. He’s quite sure this will be no problem for Santa, since the jolly man himself is magic.
Ahem.
I do believe Santa will be delivering a pink, plastic, princessy wand with a button that makes a magical sound. Because I think that’s as close as Santa can get.
If Santa really could deliver a REAL magic wand, I assure you, I would put that at the top of MY list. It’s the only thing that could give me what I really want: the ability to freeze time.
As much work as it is to have two small children, there is nothing like it in the world. And right now, I really have the best of both worlds – a bright, inquisitive and articulate preschooler and a roly-poly, slobbery, smiley, cuddly baby. It just could not get any better. Of course, I know that every stage of a child’s development brings new things to love, and I know watching the two of them grow will be a joy. But really –could I just freeze them both at this age? I’m not talking about forever. Just maybe for a couple years? Maybe three?
Who can blame me? Once you get a taste of those magical moments – a baby’s giggle, an unsolicited cuddle from a three-year old – you don’t ever want to let them go. And yet, as the years slip by, children change before your very eyes, so slowly that you take a look at a picture from a year prior and just can’t BELIEVE it’s been a whole year since you snapped that photo. The one that seems like you just took it last week.
So anyway. If there’s a little Christmas magic floating in the air around here, I’d sure like a little of it for myself. A girl can dream, right?

Is that your house or a winter wonderland backdrop at a photo studio?! Gorgeous! The tree and especially the kids. I hope the magic wand passes muster w/ Kellan. That’s a tough one.
What a lovely picture! It made me a little misty! If you find a magic wand, can you please get an extra one for me? Let’s try to set a phone date maybe the Sun or Monday after Christmas? I have Monday off.
Picture perfect! Definitely photo studio quality, with model children!
This was such a sweet post! And the picture is so, so cute. Yes, it’s all those sweet moments you mentioned that make being a mom so perfect and wonderful. I wish I had a magic wand to slow time when I wanted to. It’s bittersweet, how fast children grow! Hope you had a great Christmas, and happy new year!
