About AnchorMommy
February 10, 2009 by admin

I was happily chugging along in my dream job as a television news anchor and producer, thinking I was managing the four C’s so nicely — the career, the cleaning, the cooking, the childrearing.
But the further down the path I got, the tougher it got. Mostly because my baby became a toddler, complete with all the opinions toddlers tend to have. Like yelling, “NO!” as I was pleading with him to just please come out from under the table. The daycare teacher didn’t mind tardiness. Mommy’s boss did.
Things were good at the station. I loved my job, and loved my 30 hour a week work schedule. Unfortunately, my boss needed me back full time and wanted to shift my schedule to Sundays through Thursdays. And I just couldn’t see myself giving up more time with my family — especially Sundays.
That’s when I had my big epiphany. A big epiphany comprised of several points, actually:
- My child’s first two years whipped by in the blink of an eye.
- The next two years were bound to whip by just as quickly, and he would be starting preschool.
- With my son in preschool and myself working the newsroom night shift, our schedules would be pitted against each other.
- I already felt like I was running a race I could never win.
So I waved the white flag. After a lot of soul searching and heartache, I decided my traditional media career would have to wait. My son’s childhood could not.
How AnchorMommy operates
Currently, I am fueled by a lot of coffee. (REALLY trying to cut back.)
As for the site itself, you can expect regular AnchorMommy articles along with a once-a-week newscast from the AnchorMommy newsroom/kitchen.
AnchorMommy will provide blog-style coverage with a “news” perspective on pretty much anything and everything — from time savers to tantrums. Really, all the things that make up a mom’s life, working outside the home or not.

Shannon:
Congrats on taking the plunge. It looks like you have plenty of material - if you’re in need of more resources I’m tied into a great informal mom’s group. Some stay-at-home, some work. Good group.
Best Wishes,
Robin

You and I have so much in common!! I was happily working in radio, transitioning into tv and them bam! I got pregnant and everything changed… I love being a stay at home mom, but news and reporting is in my blood. Congrats on your decision, and I look forward to seeing more of your work.
