We have “hots” of vacation options!

July 31, 2009 by Shannon  |  2 Comments

We have

Well, we’re narrowing down our vacation options. For a while there, Yellowstone was in the lead. Now we’re leaning the completely opposite direction — the Washington/Oregon coast!

So while I was hunting for vacation inspiration last weekend, I got quite a giggle out of a little typo I found…

Enzo the Great Tolerator

Enzo the Great Tolerator

Our poor dog. Kellan seems to think that Enzo is meant to be his own personal jungle gym. And “recipe” taste tester. And amusement park ride. This is how most of Enzo’s days go…

Summer Tofu Skillet

Summer Tofu Skillet

Sometimes, those days when I have no idea what we’re going to have for dinner often generate the very best recipes. This is one of those recipes.

It makes use of what what you can easily find at your local farmer’s market or in the vegetable garden right now: green beans, fresh basil and tomatoes. With some almonds, almond butter and tofu, you have the makings of a delicious summer skillet.

What to do with extra wine corks

What to do with extra wine corks

I am certain that no one will nominate me for Mom of the Year with this blog entry.

But let’s be honest here. I have a lot of wine corks at my house. And since I always have big plans to do something crafty with them but never do, I find other ways to use them. A couple of my solutions have proven to be good toddlerproofing techniques. Yeah, I feel kinda weird using wine corks to toddlerproof my house. But who cares, as long as it works.

Sneak a “peak” at this

Sneak a

We’re big fans of the Food Network at my house, and I’m rooting for Melissa d’Arabian to become the Next Food Network Star — she’s a stay-at-home mom of four who’s a whiz in the kitchen. Go Melissa!

But while watching her advance to the final two on the show last night, I saw something that had me jumping off the couch in horror.

Drink your bananas!

Drink your bananas!

When it comes to beverages, I generally stick to water, coffee and wine. But sometimes a mommy just needs a bit of cool, delicious refreshment. And for that matter, so does a kid.

This recipe is sweet and simple — just four ingredients and a blender.

Vacation location: where should we go?

Vacation location: where should we go?

So you know how I’ve recently resolved to make the most of the summer that’s left? Looks like I’ll be doing so from the comfort of my own home, right up until the leaves start to fall.

1. We have no vacation plans.
2. We can’t narrow down where to go.
3. We want to travel on a budget.

Home hair color success!

Home hair color success!

I did it! I colored my hair at home and it did not turn purple. It did not fall out. At least not yet.

Actually, it was a pretty painless process! I just had to squirt a tube of stuff into a bottle, then shake, squirt, wait and rinse. And condition. And rinse again. And then dry my hair so I could see the new color.

Here’s my only complaint though…

Tantrums? What tantrums?

Tantrums? What tantrums?

Okay, I am typing this with one hand and knocking on the wooden kitchen table as I write this: the tantrum train has stopped.

There has been no Attack of the Killer Tantrum — at least not yet.

Tiger Tofu with Jungle Vines: a dinner for little adventurers

Tiger Tofu with Jungle Vines: a dinner for little adventurers

Kellan often asks me to tell him stories. Sometimes they’re about traveling on a pirate ship in a deep, blue ocean. And sometimes, if I know I’m going to make this meal, the stories are about swinging on vines with monkeys in a green, leafy rainforest. It’s all a setup to get him to eat his “jungle vines” at mealtime.

And it works.

A little known baby name

A little known baby name

Betcha haven’t heard of this “popular” baby name — Eizabeth.

I found this error while perusing a locally-produced, free baby magazine. The issue featured a list titled, Most Popular Baby Names of 2008.
